The District and Stephen’s Opponent

Texas’s 6th Congressional District includes part of Tarrant County and all of Ellis and Navarro Counties. It is part of a fast changing area in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with massive population growth, particularly in Tarrant and Ellis Counties. These major changes have made this district one of the most competitive in the country and a prime target to flip to Democrats in the 2020 cycle.

Stephen’s Opponent Ron Wright

Ron Wright and his extreme views are dangerous and out of touch with North Texas values.  As a columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Wright wrote op-eds criticizing what he called "Black English," writing that it is a “troubling national phenomenon.” He also suggested hanging bodies over barbed wire fences and having Saudi Arabia-style public beheadings here in Texas. He even suggested that white males should be on the endangered species list and receive federal protection.

In Congress:

  • Ron Wright voted against protecting Americans with pre-existing conditions and against lowering prescription drug prices. Wright and Washington Republicans support a health care plan that would raise premiums, let insurance companies charge people with preexisting conditions whatever they want and create what the AARP calls an age tax on everyone age fifty to sixty-four.

  • Instead of helping Texans get back on their feet during this pandemic, Wright and the Republicans have opposed efforts to expand unemployment insurance, allow temporary cash and food assistance, help people facing evictions or foreclosures, and enact sick pay and paid leave to help take care of family members.

  • Wright opposed funding for vital PPE for frontline healthcare workers and better access to Coronavirus testing, funding needed to help keep Texans safe and healthy.
